Zaylai Foundation is UK registered charity organisation (charity reg. no. 1113884) dedicated to support the educational institutions, in their efforts to rebuild of an educated and developed society in Somalia, while maintaining local cultures in the country.
It is founded by a group of Somalia volunteers who are deeply concerned about the education and the information institutions in Somalia which has suffered severely by the enduring civil strife in Somalia.
To contribute towards improvement of education by creating knowledge centres (libraries), and to source educational aid materials for the educational institutions and students.
To encourage and support of the talented, scholars, elders, intellectuals and historians, in writing and publishing their wisdoms, knowledge and much valued experiences for the generations to come.
Presenting and publish the work of the local authors by creating a publishing centre.
To preserve Somali materials that has survived from civil war and to identify the missing ones.
To provide medical and other relief assistance to the needy people in Somalia.
The term Zayla/Zaylai refers to small coastal city called Zayla, in the north east of Somalia and close to the borders with Djibouti. It was well known city for its well founded schools of thoughts and its tradesmen throughout Islamic world and beyond. The preference to name of "Zayla/Zaylai" should not suggest exclusiveness of the foundation's projects to a particular region of Somalia.
